The swimming pool at Henderson Park will not be opened this summer due to a number of unavoidable factors. There are many other recreational opportunities for the youth of the area that are available, including TPR’s “Nutrition and Sports Program” summer camp available to rising 2nd through 7th graders and many other programs, which are listed in the MCBOE’s Summer Success Catalog available on their website at www.maconk12.org. Normal pool operations for the typical 12 week summer session cost approximately $50,000 per year. Despite TPR having some success acquiring grants for health and nutrition education, they have been unable to receive a grant for swimming lessons or for any grants for any capital projects. TPR is in need of the corporate community, small businesses, churches, and individuals to assist and sponsor its programs to maintain the quality and integrity of the remaining programs offered by Tuskegee Parks and Recreation. For more information about how you can assist TPR, contact director A.D. Drew at 334-226-1630 or log onto their website at www.tuskegeeprl.org.
